Hunter House Hamburgers Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The only reason I gave Hunter House one star is because of the friendly cashier. I never tasted the burger because I didn't want to get sick after the manager walked behind the counter after doing paperwork and who knows what else and proceeded to cook my burgers without ever washing his hands! When I mentioned to him that the sink (behind the cook station, which he never used) had a sign stating "all employees must wash their hands before returning to work" he got mad and slammed a voided receipt for my meal on the counter. If this is the conduct of the "manager" in front of his employees I can't imagine what other health violations are going on behind the scenes! e.g. old meat, sub par storage of food, etc. I'm a nurse and know how food-borne illnesses can make you horribly sick and/or kill you! I wish I had read the poor reviews first because they are right on point! I won't be back!

I ordered a single, a double with an egg, fries, and tater tots. I was immediately informed that they did not have any lettuce or tomatoes in stock. Though they did not honor my restaurant.com gift card, the manager did make every attempt to find out why they were not prepared to accept the gift cards. The food: soggy and bland. The meat had a strange gray color, obviously indicating its age. Neither the fries nor the tater tots had salt, the burgers were mush, and the la carte egg was overcooked. The staff was friendly, and there was a bit of foot traffic. Recommendation to staff: fresh meat, veggies in stock, and generously salt anything fried after it comes out of the fryer.

Best choice for sliders. Ann Arbor has a lot of good burgers, and Hunter House gets the gold star for sliders. Nice old school decor, unpretentious but clean and good. Friendly staff. Also- pickle fries. Very good. Won't miss Five Guys one bit.

Family of four. Filled up for around 40 bucks. We tried a variety of the sliders (don't bother asking for full burger, not an option.). Tasty, juicy, onions grilled right in, so caution to ask to exclude the onions if you adverse, like my son was. Fries were freshly fried and crispy. Classic diner feel, white tiles, loud music, low counter, etc..

My fiancé and I have eaten here in the past and it is truly delicious! Burgers are greasy and yummy, super hot, right off the grill and cooked right in front of you. Unfortunately I can't eat wheat anymore and I can't eat there really now. But it is a super great place to stop in and grab a great snack after a night of drinking!

After my sister raved about this place, decided to stop by for a late dinner around 11pm on Saturday night. I ordered two double cheeseburgers, a single plain (for the puppy), a chicken and waffle and a green monster shake. The staff was very friendly, but for the food I got I think it's terribly overpriced. The double cheeseburgers weren't bad but certainly not as good as the original Hunter House in Birmingham. However my puppy did enjoy her hamburger, but she's far from picky. The chicken and waffle was laughable. I know we drove a whole 5 min home with the food but the waffle was barely a waffle. I don't even know what it was supposed to be. It was shaped like a waffle but was very limp and soggy and the chicken in it was like the tiniest chicken tender imaginable. I took one bite and gave the rest to the puppy who happily gobbled it up. The shake wasn't bad, but for $4.50 was pretty small. Flavor was good, but they barely crushed up the oreos so after I slurped up all the shake, I had big gobs of oreo at the bottom. I won't lie, I ate those suckers up but would have loved to taste more than just the mint when drinking my shake. Maybe I'll go again, but sit down and eat.

This is one of the worst places I have ever been to in Ann Arbor. I usually try not to frequent places with less than 4 stars but I was drawn to menu. I came in and ordered a single hamburger, a single lamb burger, a chicken & waffle slider, and a small fry. It took a while for them to get my order to me because they seem to have been preparing everything on the grill, so I was excited thinking everything was fresh. BOY WAS I WRONG. I got the order and walked 5 minutes home to eat it. I open the bag and the chicken and waffle slider is the biggest catfish ever. It looks NOTHING like what they have uploaded onto Yelp and posted on all their brochures. In their pictures they use a Belgian waffle and it has a side of syrup. In real life, they use a Waffle House type waffle and the syrup is MIA. The chicken was falling apart and the waffle was big and floppy. The chicken was good but the soggy texture of the waffle left the entire slider to be very undesirable. Next I opened up the lamb burger hoping it would be better. It has caramelized onions on it, which I loved. It wasn't good. It was grade F trash "lamb" concocted into a patty, put on a bun and audaciously called a burger. Each bite was cringe worthy and extremely unflavorful. My last hope was the burger. I'm not even going to write a long paragraph about this one. Just know that it also sucked. Now the fries. These were the worst things of all. In the 5 minutes it took to walk from the restaurant to my apartment, they had already cooled down and started to hardened up. You know how cold McDonalds fries are? That's exactly how these fries are when they are just lukewarm. Not to mention there was not a lick of salt on them. It's like they literally just got some industrial grade potato fries, fried them, and put them in the bag. I will never, ever, ever, ever return to Hunter House. The food is freaking terrible. Save your cash and your appetite. It is not even worth it. I'm literally pissed at myself for eating such trash from hell.

This place is really hit or miss. Sometimes the tots and burgers are good and other times it's SO cold and flavorless. I think the cooks do need a refresher on how to make burgers or maybe they need better training. FYI the burgers are all slider size =) When they first opened food was great. Lately the quality has really been declining and I'm very disappointed.

Placed an order online through Grubhub. They screwed it up and gave me the rest of my order. They promised to throw in a shake for free. No shake upon second delivery. While I don't expect free stuff, having a promise made only to have them not follow through was pretty rude. Called them again and they hung up on me after they told me to come in and I said I didn't have the time. I told them I would probably never deal with them gain and I advise others to do the same. The driver seemed frustrated to deal with me given I'd already tipped for the first order. Other than that, the quality of the food isn't great. The prices are okay but not worth the subpar service. Don't charge me for delivery if you won't deliver what I ordered. I can't give 0 starts but I'd like to as they frustrated me and wasted my time.

Super-simple, tasty grilled sliders, crispy fries/tots/rings, and average shakes in a shiny, spartan diner setup. Sliders are bigger than I expected - buns are the regular size and type you'd buy at the supermarket (e.g. not White Castle mini-burgers). Steamed buns, grilled patties and onions, and gooey cheese form a perfectly-holistic slider gestalt - you may add crisp bacon or thinly-sliced sweet dill pickles, but no other toppings are available or necessary. Owner is the grandson of the original store's founders, and he's kept true to the formula - a clean blue-collar lunch counter with a simple menu, made fresh, priced for everyone. Like their classic rock soundtrack, it doesn't feel so much retro to me as timeless and classic. H2+A2 4EVA

Amazing addition to the Ann Arbor food scene. Slider joint with a modern-retro feel, true to the Birmingham location. For metro Detroiters missing this place in A2, the food is delicious and has a taste consistent with the Bham location. I spoke to the owner who said after the initial launch he plans to stay open until 4am on weekends. That should bode well. In terms of specific food I had a double cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. Good but I could have probably packed down a second double (after all they are sliders not fullsized burgers). Very oniony but thoroughly cooked down and edible. I have to special call out the onion rings. Not bread crumb based, fried and good consistency. Ill be back! Good to see Michigan businesses expanding.

  • Matthew B.

Good overall experience both times I visited, but I wish the ratio of bun to hamburger was a little better...I taste more bun then meat. Not a bad place but I found another burger joint around the corner that I prefer (and they use organic hamburger too).

  • Patrick A.

Tasty sliders. Sliders are White Castlesque, steamed with onions generating a soft cooked meat. Not too greasy, a definite plus. Burgers are a 5 star. The French fries are thin cut which is nice, but slightly greasy, a 4

I rode my bike here to eat so I wouldn't feel guilty after having the greasy burgers, fries and drinks... I wasn't too hungry, but I knew sliders wouldn't fill you up like burgers, so I decided to go with the triple cheeseburger with bacon... instead of the fries I went with Onion rings and a medium drink. First Onion Rings - they were EXCELLENT! Of all the onion rings I've had in Ann Arbor, Hunter's was the best... it was crispy and yum-o!!! As for the slider... one would think that triple meat would make the slider big, but it didn't.... It didn't take long before it disappeared... since I wasn't too hungry, the triple with the onion rings worked for me... but if you are hungry, try getting two double patties... as Jason M. stated, the burgers do have LOTS of onions in them... so if you are not a fan of onions, ask them to go light on the onions. The ordering process is simple... you go up to the cashier, they ask for your name and take your order... they will bring your food out to you, on a plate... the place can be greasy, so keep that in mind... on this visit, I almost didn't get my food... because it seemed there were too customers with first name 'Jason'... but it all worked out.... you leave the dirty dish and the cup on the table, they will clean it up for you. For now, four stars... I'll have to try other food offerings and go from there... but do give them a try if you are on campus.

Great fries, but they have a home-made veggie burger, which is *never* a good idea, and ends up being veggie-mush on a bun. This would be a five star restaurant if they just kept some commercial Boca or Morningstar Farms patties around. As is, it's a nice place for fries, and probably a good place for meat, but for me, three stars.

  • Shannon T.

If you want something comforting, greasy, and quick, then this is a solid option. They are known for sliders, tator tots, and milkshakes. If you order a veggie burger, they might look at you funny- either way, they do offer them. The environment was surprisingly charming. Old fashioned menu signs are hung above the open grill where you can watch the burgers being flipped and fried foods being submerged (kind of nice to see what's happening to your food). Staff was laid back and nice. There's a long steel counter and retro stools. They're loosing out on an extra star because the burger was so greasy that the bun got too soggy and mostly fell apart. Ketchup and mustard were slopped on carelessly and were all over the wrapped/top of the burger. Would have resolved the issue if I got my food for the counter rather than to take home. I've had better greasy sliders and better tots, but this place is still a bit of a welcome novelty for downtown Ann Arbor.

I'm usually not a big sliders fan, but their chicken and waffle sliders are aMAZing. We took the kids there for a quick lunch while we were in town visiting family, and it was so good that I wanted to go back the next day on our way out of town. The chicken tenders are way better than the usual fast food greasy fried chicken fare, and the waffles taste homemade. We also all got milkshakes--made with local ice cream, just the right thickness. We're coming back next time we're in Ann Arbor!

Absolutely terrible service. I came in and ordered a cheeseburger and fries when there were only a few other customers in the store. Unfortunately, the employees seemed more interested in chatting up the girls at the counter and bantering with each other. One employee stopped what he was doing to conspicuously stare at a customer as she left the store. I waited as three more customers came in, ordered, and were served. I reminded the cashier of my order, and when he relayed my order again the employee on the grill responded sarcastically, "I know chop chop." Two more new customers were served before I received my food. The employees were clearly inexperienced and indifferent. It seemed like they needed a manager there to keep them on task. Based on this service alone, I will not be returning.

My mouth is watering just thinking about these burgers. Love this place. Michigan diner-style, sporting decor is fabulous, friendly waitstaff, and did I mention the bugers were amazing? It's open late now - how perfect.

After writing my review last night, the owner reached out to me today and apologized for the service. He gave me a gift certificate for a meal. I went in with my friend this evening and the manager on duty was excellent. He gave us our entire meal for free, we each got 2 sliders and a pop. He then offered us each a milkshake before we left. Everything tasted delicious: the sliders on par with the Birmingham location (good) and I highly recommend the location-unique chicken and waffle slider! The service this time was exceptional. I will definitely return!

I was really let down with my dining experience here. Average taste at an above average price. Not nearly worthy of all of the hype that I have seen. Hope you have a better experience, I won't be back.

Fantastic burgers and hotdogs; my new favorite spot in Ann Arbor. A little pricey for what you get, but the food is delicious.

  • Robert R.

I went there earlier today for lunch and got a triple cheeseburger and a large tots, and the cheeseburger was extremely tasty and the tots were fried to perfection. While I wouldn't go so far as to say that they were the best burgers in Michigan like the sign on their windows claims they are, heck wouldn't even say they are the best in Ann Arbor, but their burgers are done very well, and they have very kind and attentive staff. I went during a slow time, but the staff didn't use the slowness as an excuse to hide in the back, but instead kept attentive to the customers that were there. The cook even offered to refill my drink for me, which is not something that I expected from a place like Hunter House. My only real complaint is that the serving size is pretty small on the burgers, and while I know that they are sliders and are supposed to be smaller, it doesn't make for the most filling meal. However their service puts them over the top for me, taking their would be 4 star review to a 5 star review.

  • Derek M.

The beauty of the slider is its simplicity. It's a bun, a small cut of beef, grilled onions, and pickles. Executing it effectively takes effort. At Hunter House, they've got it down. It's a soft bun, a delicious slice of meat, a heap of luscious onions, and some delicious fresh pickles on the side. A good snack is a double cheeseburger and a side of onion rings. If you're looking for a full meal, grab a couple of burgers. The prices are low, and the taste makes you want more every time. I loved what I ate, and I'll definitely return. When I read some of the reviews, I wonder if maybe you're looking for the wrong restaurant. If you show up wanting table side services from a waitstaff, you won't find that here--you order at the cash register, and either sit down to eat or take it out. If you expect gigantic thickburgers, you won't find that here--you get sliders, which are thinner burgers. But if you want delicious slider burger goodness, stop by this spot that's sure to become an Ann Arbor staple.

Tasty burgers, respectable hot dogs, and great chicken waffle sliders. A great spot for the college town of Ann Arbor and very reasonable prices for the food items. Also, excellent service, the workers gave my friends and I free milkshakes since they made an extra batch of peanut butter and chocolate milkshakes.

I walked in the door 15 minutes before closing time and none of the five employees awknoledged me. Not even eye contact. The place had only one customer left. I probably won't come back.

Great sliders at an affordable price! It's a nice place to hang out with friends if you're looking for somewhere not too crowded or noisy. Or if you have that sudden craving for burgers at 12mn. I've been there twice to watch the football match. I love their cheese fries, they use cinema style nacho cheese.

  • Alex M.

Service is not great, as they have gotten my order wrong a couple of times, but the burgers are quite good if you're looking for something a bit smaller and less expensive. They also have lamb burgers, which I think is pretty cool.

  • William L.

Great cheap burgers and really cool staff. Open late for an after bar meal, but really great option for lunch in the area too. Fry portions are pretty large, so very shareable

  • Ryan D.

Okay food. But my order was missing the chicken tenders that I paid for in full. When I called Hunter House, they immediately blamed the delivery company (saying they were shoddy), and wouldn't talk to me about anything else. When I finally was able to talk to the manager about getting my order, he said they were closed and told me there was nothing they could do and it wasn't their responsibility. No more trust for this place.

    (2)
  • Ryan C.

5 stars for what it is. A great place to grab a quick burger (slider) and fries late at night... or any time really. It's the closest thing to McDonalds near downtown Ann Arbor, only WAY better. Would much rather go here than the Five Guys near by.

    (5)
  • Kaitlyn B.

I've been to the Hunter House in Birmingham and the food in Ann Arbor is just as good. Burgers aren't overly greasy, but have good flavor. Also really like that this location has homemade shakes. You can get chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or mint choc chip and there are fillings you can add. Good addition to downtown AA.

    (5)
  • Charles P.

If I had to choose between Hunter House, Menna's Joint, and NYPD for late night, I'd still wind up at Hunter House. I like the style of the restaurant, a 50s style burger joint put through a black and white filter, with the classic barstools and marquee menu. They also have a large waiting area that is inside, but separated from the actual seating area, which seems nice for the winter months and crowded periods (though based on their counter-style ordering system, I doubt it will actually help mitigate the latter. The staff were all pretty friendly as well. So why the two stars? Well, the fountain cups tasted like soap, or something equally disgusting to put your mouth on. Definitely use a straw. I ordered two double hamburgers, a large fry, and a vanilla shake. The hamburgers came out with cheese, fine, I don't mind, but they just weren't very good. The fries were nothing special, and the shake was somewhat disappointing. There is certainly better options in that area, but maybe not after 11pm.

Service was great! Very friendly and accommodating! I ordered the veggie burger and it was slightly mushy but the flavor was fantastic! Will definitely go back!!

Nothing too remarkable here. It's not bad, but not good either. small portion.

  • Olivia C.

Delicious food, extraordinary customer service. My typical order is a triple cheeseburger with swiss cheese and a side of fries. One of the employees recommended putting mushrooms and bacon on top for the full effect. Will definitely try that next time! I've never left this place without a smile on my face (partially from the sliders, partially from the extremely friendly and welcoming staff). This place is true to the original Birmingham location and is exactly what was missing from the Ann Arbor food scene.

    (5)
  • Sean S.

As with the original in Birmingham, it's all about the sliders, you aren't coming here for the fries, tots, or shakes, and if you are you are probably leaving disappointed. The sliders are enough for me to give five stars normally but I was expecting it to feel more like the original and it feels quite different. For some the differences in atmosphere may not be a negative as the restaurant is more open and spacious, but for someone who's been going to Hunter House since the ripe old age of 6 it matters.

  • Joe B.

Tried twice. Both times, service very slow even though restaurant was not busy. 1st time tried a double burger. Meet cooked to cardboard texture. un was dry like 2 day old stale dry. 2nd trip, they steamed the bun, but it was cold when served t me. Also on 2nd trip I tried the Coney dog. /dog itself was tasy, but chili was room temperature. And it was $3.00 just for the dog! Will not give a 3rd try.

  • Lindsay A.

Visited this place on its opening day. In a highly competitive hamburger market in downtown Ann Arbor, this place is clearly filling the "food for drunk people" niche. The sliders are tasty albeit greasy. Except for pickles, all of my food was a mono chromatic yellowish brown. Somehow it works although the service needs work. I'm sure it will improve over time.

Hunter house serves up some delicious sliders. Bonus points for being open late. Hunter house to me is a solid 4.5 stars. I would say the sliders themselves are bordering on 5 stars, but the other items on the menu which are less stellar bring HH down to 4 star range. On to the good stuff. The sliders at HH are legit. Not quite as small as white castle burgers, not quite as big as what us hearty Americans consider a normal size burger. What these sliders lack in size, they make up for in flavor. I've had the double cheeseburgers on multiple occasions now and both times they have been amazeballs. I love the fact that they cook the onions with the burger so it literally infuses with the burger, at least I believe this is what they do. I'm not sure how they pack such flavor into a relatively small package, its off the chain. On to the more mediocre offerings at HH. I've gotten both the chili cheese tots and milkshake there, and both a relatively disappointing, the milkshake far more than the tots. I love tots, so seeing them on the menu was a breath of fresh air from what I'm used to seeing at any burger spot, but there was something about them that just didn't blow me away like I anticipated; no this didn't mean they were bad, and I will probably still order them in the future, they just weren't on the same level of awesomeness as the sliders. The milkshake was disappointing, and no, I won't be getting one again. What's bad about it? I like thick and creamy milkshakes, HH milkshakes are the polar opposite. I believe they puts lots of milk in their shakes, which makes it watery, kind of the like the consistency you get if you get a legit milkshake and wait for it to melt after a half an hour. They've got some good stuff you can put into them, but not my cup of tea. Overall, I'm a fan of HH. It's becoming one of my go to spots after the football games and sometimes late night after bar spots on the way home. If you haven't checked HH out, it's definitely worth a try.

Extremely terrible service. Orders are not remembered and are messed up frequently. Employees are college aged students who don't care at all about the quality of service. If you have a lot of time, go for it. However, if you're looking for a quick bite...this is NOT your place. The food does not make up for the quality of service.

    (1)
  • Bob L.

Disappointing. Meat is chewy, gray and bland; fries are thin, soft and were probably recently frozen. Another contribution to the bevy of lazily-made, indiscriminately-eaten foods available on E William. And yet, inexplicably, it's packed all the time... Service seemed inexperienced, but was generally friendly and enthusiastic about the food, which was nice.

Uh Oh Blimpy. This place is really tasty. I had a double cheeseburger and a grilled cheese sandwich,Cost me under 7 bucks. They have a nice greasy menu which includes coneys. shakes, fries, tots, burgers and a couple of other things. The decor is old school in a good way. Food did not take long, and was good. Doesn't have the selection toppings of blimpy burger, but its got the stuff I usually get on a burger so it works for me. Taste a little better than 5 guys to me, but the prices were very good. Gotta wonder how long that will last.

When you walk in it has that old diner atmosphere which I loved. Best cheeseburger I've had in a long time. It was nice being from out of town to walk by and decide to try it, and it was the best meal we've had in Ann Arbor.

Hunter house keeps it simple. Great sliders with grilled onions and optional bacon. Fries, tater tots, or onion rings. And amazing milkshakes. This allows them to make their food consistently delicious and fast! My goto is double cheeseburger sliders with bacon and tots. The tots are amazeballs with chilli and cheese. Staff is friendly and accompanying. Open late which can be overwhelmingly tempting when you live close by. Try em out!

I stopped in for an order of french fries, double cheeseburger, and a milkshake. The fries were barely cooked. The burger was ok. Milkshake was good. The employees were rushing around and they messed up at least 3 orders in the time I was there. I placed my order to go, they gave it to me for dine in, without the milkshake I ordered. Very unorganized and haphazard approach. They had better tighten up the consistency with the food and the ordering experience. Better to slow down and get it right than to speed up and make mistakes. What reminded me to write a review was I noticed a charge on my credit card for $13.81, as I said I ordered a single cheeseburger, fries, and a milkshake. I certainly hope they also screwed up charging me because if that's the actual price, I'm shocked.

I love a good hamburger, and as much as I love the new world of specialty beef, ¾ lb burgers, artisan cheeses, etc, I find that such heavy meals simply knock me out. I find Hunter House to hit the spot for a hamburger craving if like me, you have a busy, active day.....deal with middle-aged dietary issues....and DON'T want food coma. A double cheesburger with bacon was excellent. Not too big, definitely not too small....all the right flavors mixed in, then add some chili cheese fries (I'll go with straight chili fries next time as the fries are slim and get soggy with too much topping) and a bottled (Hecho en Mexico) Coke, and you have the perfect mid-20th c. American hamburger meal. I didn't have food coma and found myself looking forward to my next visit....a good sign...My standard is the original Tommy Burger in Los Angeles, so the joys of a simple burger can't be beat. The Hunter House provides a good burger, and I'll next try their coney dogs, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Affordable...clean restaurant.....friendly service (in a town known for sullen or barely competent service). I'm sold.
